    WIOM has also been referred to as the World Model and the United Nations Global Model. While originally developed at New York University and Brandeis University, development of the model now takes place at Institute for Economic Analysis at New York University under the guidance of Faye Duchin.

    WIOM has as its basic design input-output tables as pioneered by Wassily Leontiev. Because of that design, more than most, if not all other, global models, WIOM incorporates detailed economic processes and resource flows.

    A much larger and more advanced version of WIOM called the World Model now runs on a supercomputer at the Cornell Theory Center at Cornell University.
