Major General Robert E. Livingston addresses INTA Graduate Seminar
Sam Nunn School of Inernational Affairs (October 7, 2009) — Major General Robert E. Livingston, Jr., Director of the J5 Coalition Coordination Center, United States Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, addresses Professor Margaret E. Kosal's graduate seminar on Counterinsurgency and Small Wars on Wednesday, October 7.
MG Livingston will speak on challenges facing the US military throughout the Middle East and Southwest Asia, including efforts to reverse the downward security and stability cycles in Afghanistan and Pakistan; reducing forces in Iraq without jeopardizing gains; degrading and defeating extremists elements; expanding governance and security; countering malign Iranian influence and nuclear ambitions; and countering piracy, narcotics trafficking, and arms smuggling in those areas. In addition, he will discuss efforts to dissuade future military competition by convincing regional adversaries that the costs and consequences of undertaking programs or engaging in hostile acts against United States interests, allies and Coalition partners far outweigh the benefits.
MG Livingston, whose degrees include a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech, is charged with facilitating the exchange between the CENTCOM Command and Staff and Military Senior National Representative from over 60 countries. He is also responsible for coordinating the identification, development and movement of non United States resources necessary to satisfy force capability requirements within the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility (AOR).
While at Tech, Dr. Kosal also arranged for the general to meet with Army ROTC cadets.
