Why Minor in International Affairs?
A minor in International Affairs provides an opportunity to receive credit on your transcript for a program of specialized instruction in the globalization of politics, economics, and the increasing interdependence of states. The minor program is designed for students who want an academic concentration that entails a more in-depth course of study than a certificate program. One benefit of that depth is that a minor appears on your transcript, whereas a certificate does not.
The Minor in International Affairs is especially useful for students preparing for graduate school or careers in internationally oriented fields. Completing a minor in international affairs signals to a prospective employer or graduate admissions committee that you have acquired a significant amount of knowledge about international affairs.
Minor Requirements

A minimum of eighteen (18) hours of coursework in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs that includes successful completion of:
INTA 1110 (Introduction to International Relations);
One course at the 2000-level (not to include INTA 2010); and
12 hours of upper division (3000-level or higher) INTA coursework.
No more than six (6) semester credits of Special Topics courses and four (4) semester credits of Special Problem and Undergraduate Research courses may be included in the minor program. No more than six (6) hours of Advanced Standing may be included in the minor program.
All courses must be taken on a letter-grade basis and a grade of C or better must be received in each course counted toward the minor.
Courses required by name and number in a student's major degree program may not be included in the minor program.
Courses required by name and number and/or used to satisfy core areas A through E in a student's major degree program may not be used in satisfying the course requirements for a minor. However, courses used in a minor also may be used to fulfill other elective requirements (free electives, technical electives, etc.) in the student's major degree program.
A course may not be counted toward more than one minor and/or certificate.
A student may petition to allow three (3) credit hours of upper-division, non-INTA coursework to count toward completion of the minor if that coursework is clearly relevant to International Affairs.
All course prerequisites must be satisfied in order to register for upper division coursework.

Pursuing a Minor
If a student wants to start pursuing a minor, he or she may start this process any time during the undergraduate degree. The student is not obligated to inform the School that he or she has started pursuing the minor. The only Institute requirement is the submission of the Approved Program of Study Form in the second to last semester of undergraduate study. At Georgia Tech, a student does not seek minor approval until he or she submits the degree petition in the aforementioned semester before graduation.
Priority Registration
INTA policy is to provide priority registration to students that have declared a minor in International Affairs. You may declare a minor by submitting a Change/Addition of An Academic Minor(s) Form.
Students wishing to pursue an INTA minor should consult with INTA Undergraduate Advisor Stephanie Jackson to plan appropriate courses, declare the minor in order to gain priority registration, and get signature approval.
